Super Glue for Fishing Tackle

Super Glue for Fishing Tackle

It is the responsibility of every fisherman to take care of all the equipment he uses in fishing. Fishing tackle, which refers to any of the equipment used in the fishing hobby should be well maintained in order to remain in good condition. Some of this equipment include hooks, rods, traps, lures, lines, baits, sinkers and floaters. Some of the equipment used in fishing are quite expensive and therefore the need of taking proper care and maintenance is required. In instances where some of the equipment breaks, super glue can be used for soft repairs because it leaves hard well-glued spots at the point of application. Cyanoacrylate glue is one of the best adhesive usable in mending broken fishing gear. Cyanoacrylate adhesives are the best for purposes of mending fishing tackle because they carry the unique property of resisting water. It is safer for use compared to silicone because of minimal treatment to resist water.

Cyanoacrylate adhesives are the ideal super glue for fishing because they cure in reaction to trace amounts of moisture that are present on the bonding surface, and they also have a high resistance to water post-cure. It is also beneficial that CA glue can be used on metals and most plastics. The thinner viscosity cyanoacrylate glues are fast performing and achieve instant bond when repairing broken gear.

How to use Cyanoacrylate Glue

To ensure that that the glue achieves its role in bonding broken fishing gear, it is important to follow some steps to ensure the best results. The first thing that should be done is to ensure that you have thoroughly washed the surface you wish to bond. When the fishing gear is made of ceramic material one should ensure that one side of the surface is dampened slightly so that the bonding can be set quickly. For each square inch of the surface, a single drop of instant adhesive should be applied to the opposing surface. After applying the glue, press both sides together firmly. Give the surfaces about 30 seconds for the bonds to form, and then you should be able to handle the glued object. Let the object sit and cure for an additional two minutes before using it. Full bonding strength should be achieved within 24 hours.
